.tar.gzfiles are just compressed archives (tar stands for TapeARchive and gz stands for GZipped) You will have to extract the contents to a folder, typically something liketar xvzf filename.tar.gzThencdto the folder (it will include any necessary.makefiles) and run any necessary commands to build the software and install it. Typically./configuremakeandmake install(this last one may requiresudoappended to it. Consult thereadmefiles usually included in the archive. – hmayag Feb 04 '14 at 21:12no makefile found– kookman98 Feb 04 '14 at 22:11.makefile then perhaps there's a binary installer or shell script (.sh). Ordinarily there should be ainstallorreadmetext file with instructions on how to procceed. – hmayag Feb 05 '14 at 08:04p7zip_9.20.1_src_all.tar.bz2That contains the source that you could compile withmakeYou could also download the binaries for linux. – user3121023 Feb 05 '14 at 09:32
