2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, in an effort to prevent Ukraine from ostensibly becoming a member of NATO. Previously invaded Ukraine, Russia recognized the states of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent. Russian armies captured parts of Kherson Oblast, Until Ukrainian forces liberated it between the 9th and 10th of October 2022. The war is still ongoing, with total confirmed casualties being 53,706 (but probably more).
